Patterson Kaye Resort has teamed up with Yoga Grove of Toronto to offer its stunning property and existing established resort as a retreat centre, with dates available for retreats starting as early as January 2019.
Patterson Kaye Resort is a prime cottage resort in beautiful Muskoka, with a decades of experience in providing high quality accommodation, exceptional service and the best of amenities to guests - whether in their many full-season and fully-equipped cottages, in their beautifully elegant restaurant, or at their expertly catered events and weddings.
Yoga Grove has hosted over a dozen retreats in Ontario over the last several years at numerous retreat centres, and has experience with all aspects of organizing and running yoga and meditation retreats.
Together, they will be bringing the best of both worlds to retreat organizers who wish to offer their clientele a high-quality retreat experience in beautiful natural surroundings, with all the service and amenities you'd expect from a Muskoka resort. AND all of this for a rate that is affordable for you and therefore affordable for all your retreat participants!
Location and Facility
Patterson Kaye Resort has been in this spectacular location in Muskoka for 80 years, and has earned the reputation of being the best small resort in Muskoka. It is open year round and is located at the mouth of Lake Muskoka, near the town of Bracebridge. The resort boasts 500 ft of waterfront with its own private sandy beach, and the property has a small river running through it with its own private lagoon.
Any organized retreat will enjoy exclusive use of the main building, patio and beach, as well as sufficient cottages to accommodate their participants throughout the duration of their stay. The restaurant will be closed to the public, and the facilities will be customized to your needs.
For example, the main building has 3 dining sections to its Seasons Restaurant, which for retreats can be set up to be one dining area (closest to the outdoor patio), one sitting area by the large stone fireplace, and the largest section set up for a yoga or activity space.
There are, in fact, two yoga spaces on the property: the first being the largest part of the dining area, which is 29'x25' and has 2 storey ceilings, many large windows with a view to the waterfront, plank floors and a huge fireplace.
The second space is in a separate building, the 'Recreation Centre', which is a lovely, bright space with plenty of natural light through its windows and glass doors. It has wood finished floors and is 25'x25' in size.
There are also two additional cozy areas near reception for sitting, one by another fireplace. And each cottage has a sitting area with a fireplace or wood stove as well.
A large range of accommodation options are offered with the numerous and varied cottages and homes on the property for guests to choose from. Well over 60 guests can be accommodated year-round, with more in the summer months. For retreats, this is easily too many rooms to fill, but it ensures that there will always be room to accommodate as many privates and semi-privates as needed, without compromising the number of people that can attend the retreat. There is an outdoor pool, open seasonally, and an outdoor hot tub, open year-round. There is a spa centre (the pool building in the map above), with 3 treatment rooms and a waiting area, staffed if desired with an RMT to offer services to your guests on request.
Patterson Kaye Resort has 24 diverse cottages on the property, each including the following common features:
bathrooms (from 2 piece to 4-piece, some with jacuzzi tubs)
fireplaces or wood stoves in winterized cottages
full kitchens in multi-room cottages; microwave and fridge in single bed cottages
Retreat guests have the option of shared, semi-private or private accommodation, with a shared washroom in the cottage as a minimum, and upgrades to private en-suite washroom, all the way to a private studio cabin or private cottage.
Shared or semi-private accommodation with shared washroom would be in one of the two large cottages: the Miller house or the Gatehouse. The Miller house has 4 bedrooms and the Gatehouse has 5. Some rooms share a washroom; others have their own adjoining bathroom.
Guests may upgrade to shared or semi-private with a private washroom, with a shared sitting area. This could be in one of the two houses above, or in one of the other cottages with 2 bedrooms and private baths - the Marys, the Waterfront or the Abbys, for example.
Guests could further upgrade to private accommodation with shared washroom (in the Miller or Gatehouse), with private washroom (in of the other cottages above).
Finally, one could upgrade to shared, semi-private or private accommodation in a private cottage.
These many options allow your guests to find the combination of affordability, luxury and privacy that is just right for them for a customized retreat experience.
The resort offers many amenities to help your guests enjoy their stay to the fullest:
beach and waterfront
beach volleyball net, trampoline, slide and docks
outdoor hot tub
outdoor pool (seasonal)
ice skating (weather and ice permitting)
hiking or snowshoeing (6 km of trails)
coffee, tea and light snacks in each cottage, and the main building
At an additional cost, guests can also, if desired four your retreat:
have a massage by an RMT
rent a motorboat
rent a ski-do or fat-wheeled bike
Patterson Kaye has its own elegant and high calibre restaurant 'Seasons', as well as hosts many sizes and styles of events throughout the year, catering everything from casual or business gatherings to elegant weddings. So they are accustomed to providing delicious, bountiful dishes to suit all tastes. All food is prepared in-house, using the freshest of ingredients, and is beautifully presented and served.
Each retreat will have the kitchen staff and chef exclusively booked, and organizers can choose what type of menu to offer - strictly vegetarian, or upgraded to include fish and/or meat offerings. Patterson Kaye will prepare all dishes to be served buffet-style, with plentiful and delicious choices for every meal. They will also accommodate dietary restrictions guests may have, and include appropriate options for them for each meal.
Retreats include dinner on the day of arrival, breakfast, lunch and dinner each full day of the retreat, and brunch on the day of departure.
The Fine Print
Minimum and Maximum Number of Participants The retreat organizer guarantees a minimum of 15 guests for a retreat. Fewer guests may come than this, but the organizer will pay for the equivalent of the minimum number times the base price quoted above.
The resort can accommodate over 60 people in its many cottages, and that many in the main yoga space for meditation and sitting. For yoga, 30-40 can be accommodated in the yoga area in the main building, and around 20 in the recreation centre.
Exclusive Use of the Resort Every retreat will have exclusive use of the main building and yoga studio building. This includes the restaurant, both yoga spaces, the sitting areas and the patio.
We can guarantee exclusive use of the entire resort (including all cottages) when there are 30 or more retreat participants. When there are fewer, the resort may allow individual fully-equipped cottages to be rented. These cottages will be completely separate from the areas used for the retreat.
Deposit To reserve dates for your retreat, we require a $1000 deposit. Assuming the retreat runs as scheduled, this deposit is returned at the end of the retreat.
If the retreat is cancelled however, the following applies:
6 months or more before the retreat, all but $100 + HST is refunded
4-6 months before the retreat 75% is refunded
3-4 months before the retreat 50% is refunded
under 3 months before, none is refunded
Bookings and Payment Processing The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) is now enforcing its rules on who can take payment for accommodation for retreats. Only a licensed travel agent or the actual establishment where people will be staying can take payment for accommodation there.
To comply with this, and to keep things streamlined and straightforward for guests reserving spots in retreats hosted at Patterson Kaye, participants will reserve and pay for the entire retreat through Patterson Kaye's booking system. The organizer will be kept informed in real time as bookings are made for their retreat.
Retreat organizers will establish their mark-up for the retreat prices, detail any early-bird or other promotions (which do not affect the accommodation portion of the price), and Patterson Kaye will manage all of the bookings in accordance with the pricing established by the organizer.
The organizer will be paid their portion of the proceeds from the retreat when the retreat runs.
Check In and Check Out Times Guests may arrive any time after 2pm on the first day of the retreat. Check out of cottages is noon on the day of departure, but participants are free to use the facilities and grounds as long as they wish.
Availability We are currently accepting retreat bookings for 2019, starting as early as January with available dates. Weekend retreats would generally run from Friday to Sunday, and mid-week retreats could run any time between Sunday and Friday. Week-long or longer retreats are possible.
Note that for 2019, there was very limited availability in the months of July and August, and the available spots have already been reserved. However, all other months except December are open for reservations.
